  Andrew Irvine is a mixed media ceramic artist who is inspired by the chemistry and science behind ceramic materials and processing. In “Atomic Number 92” he will showcase his newest works that push the boundaries of ceramic art using exotic, sometimes controversial elemental metals like neodymium, holmium, selenium, bismuth and uranium.

  
  

  God’s Garden by Anthony Palomo

  “God’s Garden” treads through shattered roses, facets of pedals and divine distortions. Dissecting the recollection of nature. Entities are slit and fractured, then reassembled into an all-seeing entirety, revealing dimensions of innocence within mangled, yet immaculate cubism.

  “Caprichos Anatomicos” is about artists depicting obsession through abstraction: mania, fascination, fixation, passion, and preoccupation. Through abstraction, the artist is reducing focus—focusing on one obsession—a word, an image, a gesture. Abstraction becomes the complexity: erasing what we don’t need, we will find what we want.

  To be summed up in a strand of beads, Capricorn Honey is a contemporary jewelry line which embodies dainty and sweet, honey-toned delicacies. We are focused in providing the modern gal with unique, high-quality pieces for everyday wear. Inspired by the beautiful colors of nature, our materials range from high quality gold chains, faceted gems, stones, to leather fabrics. All pieces are designed and hand-crafted by Nicole, the founder, in her tiny studio. Capricorn Honey has already began to appear in an eclectic boutique, Therapy Stores, Inc. with locations all around the Bay Area as well as local art and craft shows. Our goal is to continue to create special creations that excite our fans and bring a little bit of joy to any gal’s wardrobe.

  Sonrisas Jóvenes Que Hacen, Felices A Corazones Viejos by Dan Fenstermacher

  I spent the last two months capturing the lifestyle of the residents of Hogar Para Ancianos, a nice cottage-like senior citizen home in the town of San Ramon, Costa Rica. Although the language barrier between English and Spanish limited our conversations, I enjoyed listening to their stories and I feel honored to have been allowed into the community. It was a pleasure transitioning from a stranger to becoming friends with the residents.

  There are many stories captured in the faces of these senior citizens. Much of the time, the residents there can be found sitting in old wooden rocking chairs or giant comfortable black leather recliners, listening to music, chatting, and reflecting on a long life in the warm sun and soft breeze.

  Through this experience, I have witnessed that the process of life is very much a looping circle as we return to dependency on others as we age, similar to our infancy at the beginning of our life. This further reiterates the notion that we are all connected and life is about helping others and in return receiving help as well. The product of one’s life is measured in how you helped others as we all need help in this world.

  Artist’s reception: frag·ments (frăg′mənts) by Robertino Ragazza

  frag.ments are a collection of travel images taken over the years. It is my travel journal and a reminder, a montage of my experiences and connectedness to a place or singular moment.

  For me, travel is the greatest experiment. It brings forth the curiosity and the urge to investigate the experience of being alive and it permanently influences our perspective on life. It offers a new beginning, new experiences, and endlessly changing horizon. In the beginning, there was no real plan, just a vacation that became a journey. As Henry Miller once said, “One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.”

  In frag.ments, I explore and present photographs that attempt to reflect hidden meanings or just simply a literal representation of a place or singular moment that took my breath away. By definition, frag.ments be an incomplete and isolated portion or bits of pieces; a sliver or a shard, a flake or a morsel that makes up the whole experience with underlying undertones of mystery, building a narrative through contextualization and surreal juxtaposition. Inspiration comes in different forms and the book, “The Sun Also Rises” was the catalyst that inspired my sense of wanderlust, thus my journey began.

  Artist’s reception: “Diary of a Naturalist” by Shannon Amidon

  During her residency, Shannon used the technology and tools available at TechShop to create her new series inspired by the naturalists of the Victorian era. In “Diary of a Naturalist” knowledge and wonderment go hand in hand as she combines her love for books and natural history.

  With the Epilog laser, she etched images of botanicals, insects, and other natural elements onto antique and vintage book covers. Included in the exhibit are a variety of glass specimen bottles from her personal collection, each bearing a laser-etched image identifying its contents. By interlacing art and science Shannon explores the connection between man-made and natural objects; evoking a sense of nostalgia for the classic age of exploration and discovery.

  This exhibit will be showcasing the work of photographer Dan Fenstermacher and scenic designer Danielle Pena. Both are current students at SJSU and Pepperdiine University.

  Dan Fenstermacher will be showing a project photographed during his recent travels to Costa Rica. The exhibit captures and reinforces that elders are important to society. Aging should be something to celebrated respected, and these photos pay homage to their achievement of living a long life

  Danielle Pena will be showing realistic paintings from her scenic design thesis. Her paintings show a keen eye for detail and a small behind the scenes look into theatre production.

  We Are Savages solo exhibition of sign painter Ken Davis

  Our mainstream society has developed into a culture that among many other things, praises the shortcut and enjoys the illusion of luxury in their everyday. If there is an easy way out of a long trail, it is most certainly more popular of a route than the traditional trail. In the shadows of the mainstream there is a small percentage of holdouts. It is these Individuals that see the trails walked for generations as ideal routes to live their lives. Those of us with firm roots in traditional crafts are typically viewed with intrigue as modern Savages by the masses glued to their devices of instant result. The Savages are the ones who refuse to conform to the new norms that exponential technological growth has created. We generally are content with creating what we do for the sake of the pursuit and nothing more. Anything that comes from that is merely a bonus. ~Ken Davis

  Ken Davis is a traditional sign painter in the purest sense of the word and is fiercely committed to keeping the craft alive. The by-gone days of signs being hand painted, due to necessity, is now an almost lost art. This solo exhibition of new works by Davis is one of his most personal. The works in “We Are Savages” are directly from, or inspired by, the inner thoughts and experiences from Davis’ day to day life as a craftsman artist.

  Phantom Galleries presents: “String Theory” an installation by Anabella Piñon and Frances Marin at SoFA Market.

  Taking a nostalgic form of communication, the game of childhood game of ‘telephone’, “String Theory” conveys the dense, voyeuristic and sometimes overwhelming nature of modern connectivity where everyone is talking, listening and knowing what one another is doing at all times. Viewers are invited to play telephone with the set of cans displayed beside the artwork.

  I can’t recall the first time I fell in love with the night sky, but not a night has passed where I did not look up. My first feelings, without fail, is amazement, wonder, and admiration in its purest form. Then comes the sense of home, a deep feeling of oneness, a lasting sense of belonging. I’ve spent many nights searching for answers from the Universe, but it was only recently I grew to realized the importance of looking inward. This is when I discovered my inner space and the comparisons it has with outer space; the mystery, the complexity, the vastness, the humbling of the ego, and the answers waiting to be discovered and decoded.

  These paintings are reflections of my intimate journey into the mystery and wonderment of my inner space. I hope to inspire the viewer to look inward to their own skyspaces and landscapes, to boldly explore the abstract universe they hold within. Enlightenment is just beyond the mist.
